Orpington Marafun history
In 2005 Footsteps International kicked off the first Orpington Marafun. Sixty people ran, jogged and walked (many the full 26 miles) raising over £3,500 for some of the Worlds most deprived children.
In 2006, the 2nd Orpington Marafun attracted a wide variety of participants who enjoyed a dry, cool day (despite the poor forecast) and raised over £6,000 to help needy people in Kenya and Sierra Leone.
For Marafun 2007, over 100 participants including Orpington MP John Horam took part in the 3rd Orpington Marafun on 12 May, 2007, raising over £7,500 for Footsteps projects.2007. The students and staff at Walthamstow Hall School, Sevenoaks raised nearly £200 with their version of ‘Deal or No Deal’ where one of the girls made a commendable Noel Edmonds !
The 2008 Footsteps Orpington Marafun took place on 10th May, 2008. organised jointly with The Rotary Club of Bromley, there were events for all ages and levels of fitness, from a few hundred metre’s walk, to a full 26 mile marathon. Over 150 people took part in a day of fitness and fun, while raising money for some of the World’s most deprived young people!
Orpington Marafun 9th May 2009 starts at St. Olave's Grammar School, Goddington Lane, Orpington Kent, BR6 9SH. Note: the marathon and half marathon events start at the Park Avenue entrance to the school (see the course map for details).
- 26 mile marathon road run (starts 10:30am)
- 13 mile half marathon run (starts 1:00pm)
- 13 mile half marathon walk (starts 10:30am)
- Laps of the 400m track ( 2:30pm to 4:30pm)
- Bounce for charity in the bouncy castle ( 2:30pm to 4:30pm for small children only)
